Reviving 'White Gold': India Set to Launch Ambitious Cotton Technology Mission in 2025 Budget

The Indian government is poised to announce a Technology Mission on Cotton II (TMC II) in the upcoming Budget for 2025-26, aimed at revitalizing the cotton sector. This initiative responds to a significant decline in cotton production, which has dropped by 18% over the past decade. The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) emphasizes the need for advanced seed technologies and improved farming practices to increase domestic cotton production from 5.5 billion kg to 7.5 billion kg. The mission seeks to enhance quality and yield, ensuring India's competitiveness in the global textile market.
