Revving Up Relief: India’s Ambulance Gift Accelerates Nepal’s Healthcare Access

As a gesture of good will and friendship, the Government of India has gifted 40 ambulances to health facilities in 33 districts of all seven provinces of Nepal. Prasanna Shrivastava, Indian Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission in Kathmandu, personally presented the keys to the representatives of beneficiary municipalities and to representatives of rural municipalities. Mayors, ward chairpersons, political representatives, and social workers were present at the functions, and they indicated the extensive participation of the community.

This move is also part of the historic Nepal-India Development Partnership to enhance Nepal's health system and deepen bilateral ties. India has, since 1994, donated 1,049 ambulances to Nepal, in addition to 300 school buses, 200 police and polling logistics vehicles, and 15 electric vehicles for use during the Sagarmatha Sambaad summit in May 2025.
