In a dramatic role reversal in the world defence scene, India has secured a $17.52 million export order to provide state-of-the-art Universal Rocket Launchers to a top Israeli defence company. It is the first time ever that such an advanced long-range weapon system, able to target sites up to 300 kilometers away, is being produced in India and exported to Israel, a country traditionally seen as a huge provider of cutting-edge military technology to India.
This development follows fast-evolving Indo-Israel defence relations, which had earlier been dominated by Israel supplying high-end systems to India. This new agreement, driven by Pune-based NIBE Limited, indicates the arrival of India as a reliable exporter of high-end military gear and marks the achievement of the government's "Atmanirbhar Bharat" (self-reliant India) and "Make in India" programmes.
The Universal Rocket Launchers, similar to Israel's Precise & Universal Launching System (PULS), are created to be versatile and have the capability to launch a variety of munitions, even integration with sophisticated loitering munitions such as SkyStriker drones. These launchers have an unparalleled range, accuracy, and operability flexibility, making them some of the most cutting-edge in their category worldwide.
India's defence exports have risen, reaching ₹23,622 crore in FY 2024-25—a 12% increase from the last year. The government aims to reach ₹1,75,000 crore overall defence production by 2025, and this export order is a reflection of India's increased technological capability as well as global faith in its defence manufacturing capabilities.

Boost to 'Make in India': The agreement highlights India's transition from being a leading arms importer to a competitive exporter, as per the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Economic Impact: India's defence exports have increased by more than 12% in the previous fiscal year, further cementing its position as an emerging global defence player.
Strategic Shift: The alliance marks a new phase in Indo-Israeli defence cooperation, with India now adding advanced systems to Israel's defence capabilities.
