Sri Lanka’s Bid to Import Red Rice Fails: Minister Explains Why

Sri Lanka's Trade Minister, Wasantha Samarasinghe, announced that attempts to import red rice from India have been unsuccessful due to unavailability. Discussions with the Indian High Commission and suppliers revealed that red rice stocks were insufficient to meet Sri Lanka's needs. The Minister attributed the shortage to previous free distributions and increased usage in industries like beer production and poultry farming. Efforts are ongoing to manage the situation and stabilize the local market.
