Stitching Smiles: World's Largest Happy Blanket Unfolds to Celebrate Mandela's Legacy

In a sweet endeavor, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day is challenging South Africans to make the biggest "happy blanket" ever. The stunning installation is to be held at Nelson Mandela University's 2nd Avenue Campus in Gqeberha on March 20, 2025, which is also the UN International Day of Happiness. Knitting groups, referred to as "KnitWits," are knitting towards a huge blanket with a bright yellow smiley emoji in the center. The initiative, marking its 11th year, is infused with Mandela's spirit of kindness and togetherness. The blankets after the event will be given out to needy recipients throughout the country, spreading smiles and warmth in Madiba's name.
