Since April 29, Kolkata and South Bengal have experienced recurring thunderstorms, lowering daytime temperatures but maintaining high humidity. The IMD attributes this to a cyclonic circulation stretching from Haryana to Manipur, drawing moisture from the Bay of Bengal. As a result, conditions remain favourable for thunderstorms and scattered rainfall until Tuesday.

With counting scheduled for May 4, the forecast of thunderstorms and rain poses risks of transport delays, power disruptions, and logistical hurdles at counting centres. Authorities are preparing contingency measures, including backup power and enhanced security, to ensure smooth operations despite adverse weather.

Warnings have been issued for East Midnapore, Hooghly, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and Nadia districts. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea until May 3. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is also expected in North Bengal districts such as Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
