Taste Of Bharat Triumphs: PM Modi Lauds India’s Wins At Global Cheese Contest

India’s dairy industry achieved global recognition at the prestigious Mundial do Queijo do Brasil 2026. PM Modi, in his Mann Ki Baat address, praised the winners and noted that Indian cheese is now making its mark internationally, reflecting the nation’s growing artisanal food culture.

India’s Winning Cheeses

The standout was Eleftheria Gulmarg (Brie Style), which earned the coveted Super Gold medal. Other winners included Yak Churpi-Soft from Nordic Farm in Leh, Ladakh, and Eleftheria Brunost (Whey Cheese), both securing Gold medals. Additionally, Eleftheria Kaali Miri (Belper Knolle Style) won Silver, showcasing India’s ability to innovate with traditional flavors like black pepper and Himalayan salt. 

PM Modi’s Remarks

PM Modi highlighted India’s diverse cheese traditions, from Kalari in Jammu & Kashmir (often called the “Mozzarella of Kashmir”) to Chhurpi in Sikkim and Ladakh, and Topli Nu Paneer in Gujarat and Maharashtra. He stressed that these local-to-global successes reflect India’s culinary heritage and the transformation of its dairy sector. 

Global Impact

The competition featured entries from over 30 countries, judged by 350 experts. India’s debut performance not only placed its artisanal cheeses on the global map but also strengthened the identity of Indian dairy craftsmanship in international gastronomy.
