Telcos Given Extended Deadline to Register SIM Dealers

Indian telecom operators have been directed to register all SIM card dealers, franchisees, and distributors by March 31, 2025. The action will increase the security and order of SIM distribution in the country. Private telecom giants such as Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, and Bharti Airtel have also registered their dealers, but not BSNL, which is still a government-owned entity. Only registered distributors who will be registered from April 1, 2025, can provide SIMs to consumers from now on. The action, together with other security measures such as customer KYC, will go a long way in making the battle against cyber crime in India more robust by making regulations for SIM provision tighter.
