The Future Arrives in Surat: Meet India’s First Tesla Cybertruck Owner

Surat-based businessman Lavji Badshah has made headlines as the first Indian to own a Tesla Cybertruck, a futuristic electric pickup truck that has yet to officially launch in India. Known for his diverse business portfolio including real estate, diamond trading, and power loom manufacturing under the Gopin Group, Lavji’s import of the Cybertruck is a landmark moment for Indian electric vehicle enthusiasts. Notably, he has no connections with industrial giants Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, or Narayana Murthy.

Lavji booked the limited-edition Foundation Series Cybertruck six months ago at Tesla’s Texas showroom. After delivery, the vehicle was registered in Dubai and shipped by sea to India. The Cybertruck features a stainless steel body with sharp angular design, a tri-motor setup delivering 834 horsepower, and a range of approximately 550 kilometers on a full charge. It takes about six hours to fully charge the vehicle. Lavji’s family has personalized the truck by branding it with their business name, “Gopin.”

Since its arrival in Surat, the Cybertruck has drawn crowds, with locals fascinated by its unique design and advanced technology. Lavji’s son, Piyush, described the driving experience as “awesome” and expressed hope that Tesla would soon open showrooms in India. Despite the excitement, Tesla has not officially launched the Cybertruck in India, focusing on other models instead.
