The Garbage Game: Bengaluru's Mafia Takes Control

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has come out with the information that there is a strong mafia ruling over Bengaluru's garbage collection, which is thwarting proper garbage management. Contractors have created a cartel, Shivakumar charged, charging 85% extra over normal rates, and using legal obstacles to stop the government from acting. Shivakumar also accused some MLAs of blackmailing the government by demanding Rs 800 crore in development funds. To meet this, the government intends to create waste dump yards 100 km from the city.
