Toyota Establishes First India R&D Center in Bengaluru

Toyota is setting up its first research and development center in India, located in Bengaluru, with plans to employ 1,000 engineers by 2027. Initially, the facility will start with a team of 200 people. This strategic move underscores India's growing importance as a hub for clean technologies and marks a deeper collaboration with Suzuki for electric vehicle development. The R&D center will be Toyota's third in the Asia-Pacific region outside Japan, following similar investments in China and Thailand. It aims to cater initially to the Indian market but could evolve into a global R&D hub, similar to Mercedes-Benz's Bengaluru center.

 

Toyota's focus on India comes as it reorganizes its operations across the Middle East, East Asia, and Oceania, positioning India as a key player in its global strategy.
