Track to Transformation: Railways Injects Rs 396 Crore into Ranaghat-Bangaon Doubling Project

The Railway Board has sanctioned Rs 396.04 crore for doubling the 32.93-km Ranaghat-Bangaon section under Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division, aiming to decongest one of West Bengal’s busiest corridors.

Key highlights:
1. The section currently operates at 114 percent capacity, causing frequent delays due to single-line crossings.
2. Doubling will enable seamless movement of freight and passengers across nine stations including Cooper’s Halt, Majhergram, and Gopalnagar.
3. Two limited-height subways will be constructed to improve connectivity between Ranaghat and Majhergram, and Majhergram and Gopalnagar.
4. The upgrade will allow 10 additional passenger trains daily in each direction and accommodate 0.88 million tonnes of extra freight annually.
5. AC EMU services between Ranaghat and Sealdah via Bangaon have already enhanced regional mobility, and this project will further boost socio-economic development.
