UIDAI’s Gift to India’s Young: Free Biometric Updates for Children for One Year

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has waived all charges for biometric updates of children aged 7 to 15 years for one year starting October 1, 2025. This move is expected to benefit around six crore children across India by easing the process of updating Aadhaar biometrics without any cost. The waiver covers Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) for children, which are typically required twice—once between ages 5 and 7, and again between ages 15 and 17. Previously, updates outside these free age windows incurred a fee of Rs 125. Now, updates for the entire 5-17 age range are effectively free for one year.
