UK Minister to visit India to resume negotiations on India-UK Free Trade Agreement

Negotiations that have remained long overdue for initiation on the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) process are being anticipated to be resumed next week with the UK Trade Minister Douglas Alexander visiting India and meeting Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal to expedite the FTA talks. The FTA intends to enhance trade and investment beneficiary of both nations by reduction in tariffs and opening up markets for businesses in both countries. This follows British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's announcement of 2025 as a year earmarked to resume negotiations on the FTA with India during this year's G20 Summit in Brazil. After the resumption of negotiations, an increase of 42 billion British pounds is expected, given, an already existing, worthy trade relationship between the two countries.
