US Tariffs Present Silver Lining for India's Self-Reliance Push

While US tariffs pose challenges for Indian exports, they also offer an opportunity to strengthen domestic industries. A recent report suggests India can capitalize on trade tensions to boost local production and reduce dependence on foreign goods. The government's National Manufacturing Mission aims to support industries of all sizes, with a focus on sectors like footwear, batteries, toys, and shipbuilding. The Budget 2025-26 introduces measures to enhance manufacturing's share in GDP, currently at 13%. By strategically using import duties and promoting domestic production, India can turn this situation into an advantage, encouraging local investments and improving trade agreements with other nations.
