Vietnam’s National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) has successfully upgraded the Pho Noi 500 kV transformer station to a capacity of 1,800 MVA. This milestone strengthens electricity supply for Northern Vietnam, ensuring greater grid stability, meeting rising demand, and supporting industrial and economic growth.
The Pho Noi 500 kV transformer station in Hung Yen province has achieved a major upgrade, marking a significant step in Vietnam’s energy infrastructure. The energization was completed on March 25, 2026, with EVNNPT and its project partners overseeing the successful commissioning.
Project Significance
The upgrade enhances the station’s ability to handle higher loads, addressing previous capacity strains where utilization often exceeded 90%. By boosting capacity to 1,800 MVA, the project ensures reliable power transmission to industrial hubs and urban centers across Northern Vietnam.
Operational Impact
The project was implemented within the existing station premises, avoiding land expansion. Power Transmission Company No. 1 will operate the upgraded facility, ensuring seamless integration into the national grid. This development is expected to reduce overload risks, improve efficiency, and support Vietnam’s long-term energy security.
