Vodafone Idea Explores Strategic Partnerships with Satcom Players

Vodafone Idea is in talks with satellite communications firms to enhance connectivity in unserved areas. The telco sees the capability of satellite communications to fill gaps in areas with no conventional infrastructure, including remote rural and underserved urban regions. Issues of device prices and regulatory clearances for terrestrial connectivity through satellites are being resolved.

Vodafone Idea is negotiating with international satcom companies, though details are under wraps. This comes after recent partnerships between SpaceX's Starlink and other Indian telcos to provide high-end services in rural regions. The Indian government is also making efforts to overcome regulatory challenges, such as compulsory equipment testing and certification.
