WhatsApp Disrupts Spyware Attack Targeting Journalists and Activists

WhatsApp has successfully thwarted a spyware campaign linked to Israeli firm Paragon Solutions, which aimed at approximately 90 users, including journalists and civil society members. The messaging platform issued a cease-and-desist letter to Paragon after discovering the hacking attempt, which involved sending malicious files. WhatsApp emphasized its commitment to user privacy and security, collaborating with the Canadian watchdog Citizen Lab to support affected individuals. This incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by mercenary spyware targeting vulnerable groups.
