Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed thousands at the Art of Living International Centre in Bengaluru on May 10, 2026, marking the organisation's 45th anniversary and Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's 70th birthday. He inaugurated the newly built Dhyan Mandir and launched nationwide service initiatives covering mental well-being, rural development, environmental conservation, and social transformation.
On a morning where spirituality met statecraft, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered the keynote address at the Art of Living Foundation's landmark 45th anniversary celebration in Bengaluru. The event, held at the Art of Living International Centre on Kanakapura Road, brought together participants from more than 182 countries online and offline for what organisers described as one of the largest global spiritual gatherings of the year. The occasion also marked the 70th birthday of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the globally revered humanitarian and spiritual movement.
India As The World's Spiritual Answer
PM Modi framed India's ancient spiritual tradition not just as a cultural heritage, but as a living, urgent solution to the modern world's crises of anxiety, conflict, and disconnection. "The Art of Living taught people to act with awareness, with compassion, with rootedness. That is yoga in its truest sense," he said, adding that the world increasingly looks toward India for answers. He emphasised that spiritual participation and social service are inseparable that true inner development must translate into collective wellbeing and community transformation.
The Dhyan Mandir Inauguration
One of the centrepieces of the event was the inauguration of the Dhyan Mandir a newly constructed, dedicated meditation hall at the Bengaluru campus. The hall is designed to serve as a global anchor for contemplative practices and inner well-being, welcoming practitioners from across the world who visit the Art of Living International Centre. Its inauguration marks a physical expansion of the movement's infrastructure to match its growing global footprint.
Service Initiatives That Scale
Beyond the spiritual messaging, PM Modi also launched a series of year-long nationwide service programmes to be implemented by Art of Living's vast network. These cover four strategic pillars: mental well-being, rural development, nature conservation, and social transformation directly aligning with several priority areas of the Indian government's agenda. With over 37,000 programme leaders and more than one million volunteers across 180 countries, Art of Living brings grassroots infrastructure to these initiatives that few civil society organisations can match.
Gurudev's Vision At 45
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, speaking on the occasion, reflected on four and a half decades of purpose-driven work. "The sign of a healthy society is to see a smile on every face. That is the goal we have been working toward for forty-five years," he said. Looking ahead, a global meditation for world peace led by Gurudev will be held on May 13, 2026, live-streamed worldwide as part of the ongoing anniversary programming.
