Wings of Change: 11 Airports to Soar with Public-Private Partnerships

In a major step towards the development of aviation infrastructure, the Indian government has  announced the identification of 11 airports consisting of select five airports -- Amritsar, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Raipur and Trichy -- clubbed/paired with six (6) smaller airports for the operation under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The move is to enhance efficiency, upgrade facilities, and enhance passenger experience at the airports. The move is the continuation of the efforts of the government to develop and enhance the aviation infrastructure of the country. Although the details on the airports identified have not been made, the move is expected to bring in private investment and expertise to quicken the development of the airports. The move is in accordance with India's overall policy to enhance connectivity and facilitate economic growth through upgraded air transport infrastructure.
