Yoga Unites a Nation: 5 Lakh+ to Roll Out Mats for World’s Biggest Wellness Wave
As India prepares to host the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21, 2025, the Ayush Ministry officially announced that over 5 lakh people will attend the showpiece event at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, which can turn out to be the largest physical event of yoga in the country's history. The event is called "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" and focuses on the prospect of yoga in maintaining overall health, harmony, and sustainable health for the world.

Key Highlights

Massive Turnout Expected: Over 5 lakh people will take part in the main event at Visakhapatnam, and over 1 lakh yoga activities will be done simultaneously across India.

Global Movement: IDY 2025 will surpass last year's record of 24 crore volunteers in India alone. The Ministry is expecting even greater reach this year.

Yoga Sangam Initiative: More than 50,000 organisations have signed up on the Yoga Sangam portal, with state-wise registrations topping at Rajasthan, then Telangana and Madhya Pradesh.

Whole-of-Government Approach: Senior leaders of the main ministries, Ayush organizations, and the departments of stakeholders are working together to facilitate broad participation and efficient outreach.

Prime Minister's Leadership: PM Modi will speak on the national celebration from Visakhapatnam, reiterating his appeal for the mainstreaming of yoga in life.

Signature Events: Ten special signature events like large-scale demonstrations of yoga, international partnerships, yoga parks, and eco-friendly activities will be organized to celebrate IDY's 10th anniversary.

Global Outreach: The Ministry is promoting yoga as a global health movement, in harmony with the "One World, One Health" theme of the WHO.

Digital Drive: Members are able to register and post event information through the specific portal in exchange for certificates, an indication of a decentralized technology-driven model.

Countdown Activities: Starting March 13, daily countdown activities and more than 250 pre-IDY activities created a nationwide buzz.

"International Day of Yoga is not a festival but a movement that unites Ministries, institutions, and citizens on a shared mission of integral health," said Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State for Ayush.

The mega celebration aims to make yoga a permanent feature of global wellness, calling for action in unity and collective responsibility to facilitate an unparalleled rate of participation this year.
