Fitbit Fined $12M Over Failure to Report Ionic Smartwatch Burns

Fitbit, a Google subsidiary, has agreed to pay a $12.25 million fine for failing to promptly report a serious burn hazard associated with its Ionic smartwatches. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Fitbit received numerous reports of overheating and burn injuries, including cases of second- and third-degree burns, but did not immediately notify the agency as required by law. The settlement also mandates that Fitbit implement enhanced compliance measures to prevent future safety issues.
