1. Extended ITR Filing Date

- The due date for filing ITR for non-audit taxpayers who are salary taxpayers has been extended up to September 15, 2025, and therefore taxpayers will get ample time to gather documents and file accordingly.

2. Enhanced Documentation and Proofs Needed

- If you opt to go under the previous tax system and claim deductions (Under Sections 80C, 80D, HRA, etc.), you would need to show detailed documents such as rent receipts, insurance policy documents, and investment statements while filing. The tax department will scrutinize such claims thoroughly, and absence of documents could lead to rejection of claims and additional tax liability.

3. Form 16 Amendments and Raised Standard Deduction

- Form 16 will now also contain TDS on salary along with TDS/TCS on other incomes (like interest or overseas travel), if you have claimed these from your employer on Form 12BAA. Interestingly, the basic exemption is ₹75,000 under the new regime, but only ₹50,000 if you opt for the old regime while filing.

4. Mandatory Disclosure of All Revenue

- All the incomes from sources, whether exempted or miscellaneous income (like interest on savings account, withdrawal from PPF, and dividend), must be reported in your ITR. Non-reporting can result in notices or mismatch with AIS (Annual Information Statement).

Quick Tips:

- File early to prevent last-minute rush and quicker refunds.

- Validate all inputs, especially new mandatory fields in ITR-1/ITR-4 utilities. Make use of the sufficient time to gather and upload all proofs.
