Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL) has hit a major milestone in Maharashtra, successfully commissioning its state-of-the-art 4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) pellet plant and an 85-kilometre iron ore slurry pipeline. This marks a big leap for both the company and the region’s steel and mining sector.

Key Highlights:
  • The newly operational 4 MTPA pellet plant at Konsari is set to boost LMEL’s production capacity, supporting its vision to become a leading player in India’s steel value chain.
  • The 85 km slurry pipeline, stretching from the Surjagarh iron ore mines to the pellet plant, can transport up to 10 million tonnes of iron ore per year. This pipeline is expected to move about 30,000 tonnes of ore daily, drastically reducing truck traffic and easing the load on local roads.
  • The pipeline is a first for western India and only the fourth of its kind nationwide. It’s a major step towards “green logistics,” helping to cut carbon emissions and support LMEL’s sustainability goals.
  • LMEL’s Surjagarh mine is also aiming to become India’s first “green mine,” with initiatives like large-scale tree planting and a shift towards renewable energy.
The company has secured environmental clearance for these projects and is planning further expansion, including additional pellet plants and a greenfield steel mill at Konsari.
The total investment in the region is pegged at over ₹24,000 crore, underlining LMEL’s commitment to growth and sustainable development.

With these projects, Lloyds Metals is not just scaling up production but also setting new benchmarks for eco-friendly mining and steelmaking in India.
