Good news for customers who have scheduled bank visits on Saturday, May 3, 2025: banks in India will be open. Banks follow guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which state that banks are open on holidays only on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. May 3 being the first Saturday, all government and private banks will be open for work as usual, so you can finish your banking work without any hassle.

But May is dotted with numerous state-specific bank holidays. For example, banks remained shut on May 1 as Labour Day and Maharashtra Day were declared across various states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. Festivals in the coming weeks include Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti on May 9 (bank holiday in Kolkata), Buddha Purnima on May 12 (holidays in various cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, and Kolkata), and State Day on May 16 in Gangtok. Other regional festivals occur later during the month like the Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam on May 26 in Agartala and Maharana Pratap Jayanti on May 29 in Shimla.

Though physical branches are shut during holidays, digital banking services are operational in full force. Customers have the option of using ATMs, mobile apps, and internet banking for financial transactions such as fund transfers, credit card bill payments, and account management.

Keep yourself posted with your local bank alerts or RBI announcements to schedule your banking activities hassle-free this May.
