The Museum of Goa (MOG) is once again stretching the limits of artistic innovation and cross-cultural communication with its newest show, "Homo Ludens: The Art of Play." Its forward-thinking exhibition, open through March 17, 2025, combines 99 Indian and Dutch artists showcasing more than 140 artworks in three separate shows. Based on Dutch historian Johan Huizinga's book, the show taps into the global phenomenon of play as part of daily life, promoting cross-cultural discussion and imagination.
Highlights include "Homo Ludens: खेल-Spel," edited by Sajid Wajid Shaikh, which features more than 50 multimedia pieces exploring play in diverse contexts, from war to childhood. The "Cycle Diaries" section, a photography show curated by Prashant Panjiar, Asmita Parelkar, and Sharada Kerkar, features 88 of the 900 photographs shortlisted for the exhibition, illustrating the museum's efforts at developing diverse artistic skills.
MOG's commitment to community involvement is also seen in its participatory workshops, children's art studio, and the MOG Foundation's education programs, establishing it as a driving force for artistic development and cultural exchange in Goa.
