The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has given its nod to a major overhaul of its curriculum. From 2026 onwards, CBSE will provide Science and Social Science subjects at two levels of difficulty - Standard and Advanced - for students of Class 9. This new system will be introduced in the Class 10 Board exams in 2028. The move is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which suggests providing subjects at various levels. The change is expected to prepare students better for entrance examinations such as JEE and lower reliance on extraneous coaching. CBSE is already testing this proposal in 30 schools to see how students react. The board is also contemplating permitting students to change levels in Class 10.
