Mumbai never sleeps but will have to wake up to a rainy messy morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rain in the next few days. With the southwest monsoon making its return in full strength, commuters are requested to pre-plan because waterlogging, jams, and delays are on the cards.
According to the IMD, Mumbai is under orange alert until June 17, with forecasts of heavy rains, cloudy skies, and mercury ranging from 25°C to 32°C. Heavy waterlogging and traffic congestion are expected due to the rains, triggered by low-pressure systems in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, mostly in low-lying areas.
The roads of the city are already starting to groan. Traffic and waterlogging have been seen in certain sections, and authorities are kept alert to manage interruptions. The IMD has also hinted at the likelihood of isolated rain extending into June 18, but lighter in nature.
Commuter Advisory:
-
Avoid making unnecessary trips during peak rain time.
-
Use public transport where available.
-
Stay updated with local traffic and weather apps.
As monsoon takes back the skyline of Mumbai, citizens are reminded to stay dry, stay safe, and have those umbrellas ready.
