Diksha Yadav Makes Waves: Maharashtra’s Mermaid Strikes Double Gold at Khelo India Beach Games

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the Khelo India Beach Games, which was held in Diu, Maharashtra, swimmer Diksha Yadav delivered an outstanding performance by winning gold in open sea swimming in two different events. The 19-year-old swimmer successfully competed in both the 10 km and 5 km events held at Ghoghla Beach, demonstrating her exceptional talent and endurance against tough competition.
 
In the ladies' 5 km open swim, Diksha finished first by swimming the course in 1 hour, 10 min, and 12 sec, as she beat fellow Maharashtrian swimmer Purva Gawade, who finished second, and Karnataka swimmer Aasra R Sudhir, who finished third. Earlier in the day, she had already won gold in the 10 km event, with a time of 2 hours, 18 min, and 9 sec.
 
After her achievement, Diksha reflected, "Winning double gold at KIBG 2025 is the result of all my hard work and practice. Everything was perfect for me today, and I felt good to win even when I didn’t have the odds in my favor."
 
The Khelo India Beach Games is a gathering of over 1,000 athletes from 22 states and union territories, showcasing the emergence of talent in the sport of beach and open water. Diksha's performance marks another success for the growing popularity of aquatic sports in Maharashtra.
