Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has unveiled a historic joint venture to set up 8-10 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants in different states in India. The move reinforces BPCL's determination to drive sustainable energy solutions and lower the country's dependence on fossil fuels.
The joint venture will be dedicated to converting farm and organic waste into CBG, a renewable and sustainable source of energy. This action supports India's overall pursuit of energy security and reducing climate change. Through the utilization of cutting-edge waste-to-energy technologies, the project will seek to tackle urgent issues such as air pollution from stubble burning and land degradation.
The major highlights of the scheme are:
- Development of an organized value chain for agri-residue purchase, generating other sources of income for farmers.
- Greenhouse gas emission reduction, supporting India's net-zero ambitions.
- Facilitation of government programs such as the GOBARdhan scheme and SATAT program, encouraging sustainable mobility and clean fuel uptake.
This initiative is a major milestone towards BPCL's vision to be a Net Zero Energy Company by 2040. It also demonstrates the company's commitment to rural development and strengthening India's energy ecosystem.
