Elon Musk's Starlink is poised to transform the internet in India, with its much-awaited satellite internet service launching sometime in late 2025 or early 2026. Starlink has obtained key regulatory go-aheads from the government in India and is now preparing to finalize final licensing and allocation of spectrum, paving the way for roll-out in the country.
Industry experts believe that Starlink will introduce unlimited data plans at very attractive promotional rates—maybe under $10 (about ₹840) per month. This low-cost assault approach will develop Starlink's user base very rapidly, especially in rural and remote locations where traditional broadband is unreliable or nonexistent. The goal is to have 10 million subscribers in the medium to long term, leveraging economies of scale to offset high infrastructure and spectrum costs.
While the monthly price of Starlink will be higher than some wired broadband services, its value proposition will be to provide high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity to even the most rural parts of India. The service will be provided by big telecom partners like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, with the hardware and customer care to be delivered through their retail channels.
At 25 Mbps to 220 Mbps speeds, Starlink promises to bridge India's digital gap and connect millions of Indians with reliable connectivity. The pricing and launch schedule will be finalized once all regulatory approvals are obtained.
