From Hidden Gem to Investment Magnet: Northeast India Bags Rs 4.3 Lakh Crore in Game-Changing Proposals

The first version of the 'Rising North East Investors Summit 2025' has come to an end recording investment proposals of a staggering Rs 4.3 lakh crore, an unprecedented and watershed moment for the northeastern states of India.  The summit was convened on May 23-24 and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was accompanied by chief ministers of all northeastern states, Union ministers, global investors, industry leaders, and diplomats from over 80 nations. 
 
In the concluding session of Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia stated "that the North East is now set to become the next economic growth engine of India. There was one collective sentiment expressed, that India's future lies in the North East," in alluding to the North East's emergence as a paragon of global partnership and global collaboration.
 
Major industrial announcements were made during the summit including Reliance Industries Charman Mukesh Ambani announcing a pledge to invest Rs 75,000 crore towards agriculture, telecommunications, and digital services and development of local businesses through existing businesses over the next five years. Also, Adani Group Chairperson Gautam Adani announced an additional Rs 50,000 crore over the next ten years and Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal announced more than Rs 30,000 crore for the North East.  These industry leaders collectively are invested in the North East, totaling in excess of Rs 1.55 lakh crore. 
 
The Ministry of DoNER will form eight Task Forces of high level officials in the following sectors:  agriculture, sports, tourism, economic corridors, infrastructure, textiles, handicrafts, and animal husbandry which will allow each state to construct its own roadmap.  In the past year, the ministry lead the charge in an extensive amount of engagement which included 9 domestic roadshows, ambassadors' meetings with representatives from over 95 countries, and multiple interactions with leaders in targeted sectors. 
 
Prime Minister Modi stated at the summit  that "the commitment of the government for the North East has not wavered," citing the achievements in education, health care, and infrastructure which included the building of over 800 new schools, and the establishment of the first AIIMS in the region, nine new medical schools, and additional IIIT's to highlight the pace of the North East.
 
Scindia reiterated that every investment proposal and MoU described at the summit will be chase ceaselessly to find room for initiatives to go forward, and that the ministry will act as a bridge between the investor and state government as it relates to the rapid development of major projects.  "The North East Region now embarks on a journey of New Economic Revolution—a New Economic Revival—and that it will become India's International Gateway to Southeast Asia," stated the minister.
