The Indian government has launched a dedicated mobile app for the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme (PMIS), aiming to enhance participation by simplifying the registration process. Launched by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the app addresses the challenge of limited computer access by leveraging mobile technology. It features easy registration via Aadhaar face authentication, a personalized dashboard, and real-time alerts. The scheme targets providing internships to 10 million youths over five years, with a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 and a one-time grant of ₹6,000 for incidental expenses. Currently, 325 companies have offered 1.18 lakh internship opportunities across all 735 districts. A facilitation centre in Kolkata, in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), will support applicants.
