In a major step toward inclusive e-governance, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has invited startups to build and maintain multilingual government websites and mobile apps, with a strong emphasis on integrating Bhashini, India’s AI-powered language translation platform. The initiative, launched via a Request for Empanelment (RFE) on July 2, 2025, aims to onboard up to 10 DPIIT-recognized startups for a three-year term, extendable by one year.

Bhashini, developed under the National Language Translation Mission (NLTM), uses AI and natural language processing to make digital content accessible in 22+ Indian languages. Startups will be required to collaborate with regional language experts, ensure user-vetted translations, and provide real-time updates even during the maintenance phase.

The move comes as government departments increasingly demand multilingual digital platforms to bridge language barriers and improve citizen access. Selected startups must also comply with GIGW guidelines and undergo CERT-IN security audits.

Key Highlights:
  • Launch Date: July 2, 2025 (RFE issued)
  • Scope: Websites, apps, e-forms with multilingual support
  • Tech Backbone: Bhashini AI translation platform
  • Empanelment: Up to 10 DPIIT-recognized startups
  • Deadline: Bid submissions by July 23, 2025
