iPadOS 19 Pens a New Chapter with Calligraphy Support for Apple Pencil

Apple is going to launch a game-changing calligraphy mode for Apple Pencil users in iPadOS 19, allowing digital calligraphers and handwriting aficionados to create life-like Arabic handwriting using a new "virtual reed calligraphy pen". The virtual pen mimics the original Kamish reed pen widespread in Middle Eastern calligraphy and will be introduced through software updates-no hardware upgrades required. The project is one of Apple's broader expansions into markets like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and India, and will probably come out at WWDC 2025 in June.

 

Along with the calligraphy tool, iPadOS 19 will also feature a premium bi-directional keyboard for seamless toggling between English and Arabic, further making the iPad a compelling choice for multilingual consumers.
