In a big boost to rural development, Kiphire district has embarked on a series of innovative projects to empower the local communities and transform the agriculture sector. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) introduced the Tribal Resilience Initiative for Building Environmentally Sustainable Livelihood (TRIBES) with the objective of encouraging sustainable agriculture and farmers' empowerment in several villages. The project implemented through NEIDA can empower the tribal farmers through the promotion of environment-friendly farming and institutional support.
Providing further thrust to this development wave, the JIVA Project was also launched in Amahator village, which has been sponsored by NABARD and implemented by the Better Life Foundation. The project encourages a shift from chemical to organic farming to bring about food security and income stability to the farmers of the region. The pilot project will empower 30 farmers, introduce round-the-year crop cover, and establish nurseries for high-value crops like apples and kiwis.
District officials and agronomists have rallied behind such ventures, urging farmers to capitalize on the opportunities and become role models of sustainable development. The projects mark a firm step towards integrated rural transformation, auguring good times for Kiphire's agrarian societies.
