Mumbai T20 League’s Power Duo: SKY to Captain North East, Shreyas Iyer Anchors SoBo Falcons

The platform has been set for the return of the Mumbai T20 League next year, 2025, with the icons being announced for the eight franchises. India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav will be leading Triumph Knights Mumbai North East. SoBo Mumbai Falcons have signed icon player Shreyas Iyer. These appointments are ahead of the mega auction on May 7 in Mumbai, when the teams will seal their squads.

Every franchise has locked up their icon player for a predetermined amount of ₹20 lakh, creating a foundation for team building. Aside from Yadav and Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane will represent Bandra Blasters, Prithvi Shaw will represent North Mumbai Panthers, Shivam Dube will represent ARCS Andheri, Shardul Thakur will represent Eagle Thane Strikers, Sarfaraz Khan will represent Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs, and Tushar Deshpande will represent Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals.

Coming back after six years, the tournament will take place from May 26 to June 8 at Wankhede Stadium. The participation of international players as icon captains is to raise the level of competition and provide a platform for the up-coming talents of Mumbai.

Mumbai Cricket Association President Ajinkya Naik said that the league aims to focus on grassroots cricket along with providing best-level entertainment to the fans. The mega auction will have a shorter list of about 400 players, including U-19 and U-23 talent, mixing experience with youth within the teams.

With IPL 2025 ending just prior to this league, most IPL players will switch to the Mumbai T20 League, ensuring a competitive season. The matches and auction of the league will be telecast live, increasing the exposure of Mumbai's cricketing talent.

This season of the Mumbai T20 League will ensure exciting cricket, new rivalries, and cricketing heritage of Mumbai, headed by players such as Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer.
