India's largest airline IndiGo has declared Mumbai as its initial destination from Manchester, its inaugural long-haul route to Europe. From July 1, 2025, IndiGo will operate thrice-weekly direct flights between Manchester and Mumbai on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, becoming the only airline offering direct routes between India and Northern England.
The new flight is likely to strengthen ancient links and boost business, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two nations. Travelers will be served complimentary hot meals and beverages, with both economy and new IndiGoStretch service as an option for business flyers. Flights operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and booking is now possible through IndiGo's website and travel partners.
The plan has been greeted by Manchester Airport Managing Director Chris Woodroofe, who is citing the significance of the project for the region's half a million-strong Indian diaspora population and in deepening trade, educational, and tourism links. The opening comes at a crucial time as new consular and economic ties between India and the North of England remain buoyant.
