In response to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the New Delhi district police have been issued strict new directives to enhance security and visibility in Lutyens’ Delhi. Officers have been instructed to avoid mobile phone usage and refrain from sitting idle while on duty, ensuring an active presence in sensitive areas.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla) issued the directive, emphasizing maximum visibility of police personnel across public spaces. The ten police stations in the district, overseen by five Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), will now conduct mandatory morning and evening briefings in highly visible public areas. If an SHO (Station House Officer) is unavailable, another inspector must take charge.
To strengthen security measures, picket duty personnel will undergo checks and briefings at least twice per shift, conducted by SHOs or substitute inspectors. Additionally, ACP-level officers will lead separate briefings once per shift. Barricades with reflective tape, body-worn cameras, and armed personnel will be mandatory at all picket points. Night shifts will require additional equipment, including shoulder lights, blinkers, and reflective jackets.
Motorcycle patrols will also be reinforced, with two officers per vehicle, one carrying arms, a checking register, and a body-worn camera. These measures aim to boost preparedness and security in one of India’s most sensitive zones.
