The 72nd Miss World pageant commenced in Hyderabad with a star-studded, energetic opening ceremony at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, marking the commencement of a month of beauty, culture, and values. The city has gone all out from grand welcome boards and ticket windows to increased security as representatives from more than 110 nations arrive here for this high-profile international competition.
Grand Inauguration and Cultural Showcase
The opening ceremony was held at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, which was inaugurated by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with Miss World Limited Chairperson Julia Morley and current Miss World Krystyna Pyszková.
Traditional Telangana folk and tribal dances-like Perini, Kommu Koya, Lambada, and Oggu Dolu-were showcased, giving a warm welcome and highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Contestants marched in their national costumes, waving their flags high, depicting unity in diversity.
Improved Security and Venue
Security has been dramatically enhanced at the venue, with extensive measures involving areas reserved for media, VIP enclosures, and intense fire safety measures.
Welcome boards and ticketing counters have been established to facilitate guests' entry and create a seamless experience for attendees.
Worldwide Participation and Representation
More than 110 contestants from all continents are competing, including those from India, the USA, Venezuela, South Africa, and various Caribbean and European islands.
India's Nandini Gupta, Femina Miss India World 2023, is headed by the Indian contingent.
Schedule and Highlights
Festival spans from May 7 to May 31 and encompasses cultural, spiritual, and philanthropic events in Telangana.
Some highlights include visiting sacred Buddhavanam at Nagarjunasagar, a Charminar heritage walk and a visit to Laad Bazaar, and royal welcome dinner at Chowmahalla Palace with live concert.
The grand finale is scheduled for May 31 at HITEX Exhibition Centre.
Messages of Peace and Purpose
The event’s theme, “Beauty with a Purpose,” was underscored by leaders and organizers, emphasizing global peace, unity, and cultural appreciation.
Telangana’s government expressed hope that each contestant would become an ambassador of peace and cultural harmony in their homeland.
