In a bid to make the playing field even for India's momandpop shops, Bengaluruheadquartered startup Nearwala has introduced an AIdriven hyperlocal shopping app. The new app has been introduced by IT industry experts Rahul KC and Rajiv Surendran. The app has been aimed at helping the local shopkeepers compete with ecommerce behemoths by bringing their storefronts online and improving customer interaction.
Major Developments
-
Nearwala's application offers personalized discounts, product discovery, and payment choices to consumers, with customer management features for merchants.
-
The app has so far onboarded more than 2 lakh users and many small retailers in India.
-
The cofounders had already created Qkopy, a tech company that had helped the Kerala government during health crises, demonstrating their capacity for scalable, highimpact technology.
How It Works
-
They can shop at local shops, interact with the owner, and place an order through a chatbot interface.
-
Merchants get access to a plugandplay online store without requiring technical knowhow.
-
The app's AI engine helps the merchants in offer and inventory customization.
-
Why It Matters
The program addresses an essential void: small stores oftentimes lack the means to create and continue to update their own apps.
By placing local businesses on one platform, Nearwala makes them more competitive and visible.
The model is scalable and replicable in India's vast network of kirana shops and service providers. Founders' Vision Rajiv and Rahul envision Nearwala as an online business companion for India's 13 million small merchants. Their mission: to make technology accessible and enable local businesses to thrive on the internet.
