Sarla Aviation, an innovative aerospace startup, has unveiled its ambitious plan to revolutionize urban mobility in India by introducing air taxis under the Viksit Bharat initiative. The company recently showcased its first flying taxi prototype, Shunya, which represents a significant step toward sustainable and efficient transportation solutions. Adrian Schmidt, the CEO and co-founder of Sarla Aviation, emphasized the transformative potential of air taxis in addressing urban challenges like traffic congestion and long commute times.
The electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developed by Sarla Aviation is designed for short-distance travel, offering a faster, cleaner, and more economical alternative to traditional vehicles. The company plans to launch its services in Bengaluru, followed by Mumbai and Delhi, with a nationwide rollout targeted for 2028. Sarla Aviation has already secured $12 million in funding and aims to expand its team and infrastructure to meet its ambitious goals.
