2025 Amarnath Yatra registrations have fallen by 10.19% after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured. The registrations were robust before the attack, with around 2.36 lakh pilgrims indicating registrations. The attack, however, caused interest to dip, with safety concerns increasing among prospective yatris.
Key Highlights:
Sudden Drop: The enrollments fell by over 10% compared to last year and are a direct result of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Reverification Drive: The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board is reaching out to those who registered prior to April 22; 85,000 have so far signed up again.
Security Improved: Three-tier security network has been set up at base camps, enhanced deployment of CAPF and police, and service provider verification undertaken to reassure pilgrims.
Restoring Confidence: LG Sinha noted that confidence is gradually returning as security is being enhanced and registrations are beginning to pick up again.
Expectation: Despite the setback, the administration is optimistic that increased security and outreach will restore confidence in the pilgrimage, which starts July 3. The response of the public in the coming days will be watched closely as a test of confidence in safety measures and the unbreakable spirit of the Amarnath Yatra.
