Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited has entered its strategic play in the wagon manufacturing sector by commissioning greenfield facility at Kharagpur in West Bengal today. The facility, being established through subsidiary Ramsarup Industries, will have an output of 4,800 wagons a year and will commence production by March next year.
It is part of the company's five-year master plan for capital expenditure and will be built in phases I and II. Phase I will produce 2,400 wagons per year, and Phase II will double the output to 4,800 wagons. The factory will be built with the ability to expand and will make a range of rolling stock including flat, open, box, hopper covered, tank, and specialty wagons.
In keeping with its emphasis on innovation and sustainability, the plant will have rooftop solar panels, an in-house housing colony, recreational facilities, and will utilize locally produced equipment. Geographically strategically located, it benefits from easy connectivity through two national highways and proximity to a port, supplemented further by Shyam Metalics' integrated infrastructure, comprising an operational railway siding and captive power plants.
This facility is a reflection of our innovation, sustainability, and nation-building approach. Right from rooftop solar power to Made-in-India technology, each of these has been thought through and accomplished with a view of maximum operational effectiveness, least environment footprint, and well-being of employees," Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd Director Sheetij Agarwal stated.
