India's defence technology industry has achieved a new milestone as IG Drones announced indigenous FPV Kamikaze drones for ₹1 lakh. The low-cost, high-impact drones are being touted as a game-changer and reflecting a new era of cost-effective, homegrown military technology.
Key Highlights:
Cost-Effective Precision: IG Drones' FPV Kamikaze models have a top speed of 140 km/hr and are specifically made for direct target strikes, providing frontline troops with an economical means for precision attacks. IG Drones' Senior Vice President Major General Ramesh Chandra Padhi (retd) stressed that these drones break the myth that sophisticated defence technology has to be costly.
Operation Sindoor Spotlight: IG Drones was at the center of Operation Sindoor, providing drones and key services such as surveying, mapping, and reconnaissance to the Indian army. Their technology was key to successful cross-border raids after the Pahalgam attack, bringing the startup national and international acclaim.
Indigenous Innovation: The availability of cheap kamikaze drones is part of a wider drive for self-sufficiency under the "Make in India" initiative. India's defence industry is leapfrogging ahead, with indigenous production and exports hitting all-time highs, and indigenous drone technology now at the forefront of future military strategy.
Warfare Revolution: Kamikaze drones-also referred to as loitering munitions-have the capability to hover, detect, and attack targets with precise accuracy, lowering risk to troops and allowing for tactical agility. India's newest variants are capable of functioning in GPS-denied environments, further increasing their battlefield value.
Startup Success Story: IG Drones, set up by engineering graduates, has risen rapidly as a major player in India's defence-tech landscape, proving that world-class innovation can be delivered by domestic startups.
With indigenous kamikaze drones now available at a fraction of traditional costs, India is poised to redefine modern warfare and strengthen its position as a global defence innovator.
