Teen Sensation Aisengfa Gogoi Lifts Assam to Glory with Historic Gold and Record-Breaking Feat at Khelo India Youth Game
Aisengfa Gogoi, a 17-year-old Assam weightlifter and trainee at the SAI National Centre of Excellence in Lucknow, set a record-breaking performance at the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 in Rajgir, Bihar. In the highly competitive girls' 55kg weight category, Gogoi won gold with a total lift of 183kg, breaking the earlier youth national record of 182kg held by Koyel Bar at the 2024 Asian Championships in Doha.
The campaign of Gogoi started with an impressive snatch series, opening at 75kg and going to clean lifts of 79kg and 81kg, tying the snatch record of Odisha's Mina Santa at the World Youth Championship in Fiji last year. At the clean and jerk, she also proved to be calm and strong and landed on the first podium position. Her closest rival, Mina Santa, ended with an aggregate lift of 177kg to claim silver, while Andhra Pradesh's Hema Sri Karangi took bronze on 164kg.
This gold marks Gogoi’s first at the Khelo India Youth Games, a significant milestone after missing out on a medal in last year’s edition in Chennai. Her triumph also delivered Assam its sixth gold of the Games, propelling the state into the top 10 on the medal table.
Gogoi gave credit for her success to her coach, parents, and also to the encouragement she got at the Lucknow training center, where she has been training since 2023. Her win not only reflects her individual improvement but also the growing level of youth weightlifting in India.
