Western Carriers Hauls in a Whopper: ₹1,700 Million Zinc Logistics Deal from Hindustan Zinc

Western Carriers (India) Limited has won a large order of ₹1,700 million from Hindustan Zinc Limited, which is a significant addition to its logistics business and a further endorsement of its status as one of India's leading supply chain players.
 
Western Carriers (India) Ltd., a premier multi-modal logistics solutions company, has secured a four-year contract with Hindustan Zinc Limited, one of the largest zinc-lead-silver producers in the world. The contract requires the transportation of finished products such as zinc and lead ingots from different smelting complexes to major ports and depots around India.
 
Contract Details
  • The value of the order is ₹1,700 million (₹170 crore). 
  • Duration: Four years.
  • Scope: Both export and domestic transportation of finished goods for Hindustan Zinc Limited.
Operational Coverage
 
Finished goods will be shipped from Hindustan Zinc's key smelting complexes:
  • Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter
  • Zinc Smelter Debari
  • Dariba Smelting Complex (all Rajasthan)
  • Pantnagar Metal Plant (Uttarakhand)
  • Destinations include major ports (Mundra, Pipavav, Mumbai) and HZL's depots and customer locations across the country.

  • The deal consolidates Western Carriers' presence in the metals and mining logistics business.
  • It showcases the ability of the company to undertake large-scale multi-modal logistics solutions for big industry clients. 
Industry Context
Western Carriers has also won other major contracts in recent times, including one worth ₹1,089 crore with Vedanta to transport aluminium products and pig iron, which reflects its increasing footprint and strength in industrial bulk logistics. 
 
The infrastructure of the company reaches out to more than 50 branches, 16 warehouses, and 55+ railway handling points in 23 states, which provides extensive last-mile connectivity.
