In a stirring display of grit and talent, 18-year-old Sabina Kumari from Jharkhand’s Chatra district clinched two golds (Keirin, Team Sprint) and a bronze (200m Sprint) in cycling at her debut Khelo India Youth Games 2025. The daughter of a daily-wage worker and a housewife, Sabina began cycling by chance after her father enrolled her in a government program in 2017. Training under coach Ram Kapoor Bhatt at the JSPS Academy, she quickly rose through the ranks, winning her first national medals by 2021. Supported by the Khelo India Scheme, Sabina has since earned international recognition and now trains at SAI’s National Centre of Excellence under French legend Kevin Sireau. Balancing sport and study, Sabina hopes her story will inspire rural girls to chase their dreams: "Work hard. Pursue what you want, whether it is in sport or anything else."
