The government has made the Tatkaal passport scheme more rationalized with a guarantee to deliver the passport within 72 hours from the time of submission at doorstep. It is a high-speed service eliminating pre-issue police verification, which makes it much more convenient and efficient.

1. What's New in the Tatkaal Passport Procedure?

No police verification before issue—verification can be done after delivery if needed.
Candidates now receive their passports within three working days, as opposed to 30–45 days for regular processing.
The service is specifically ideal for urgent travel for medical, official, or personal purposes.

2. Documents & Eligibility Required

Candidates must submit any three supporting identity documents such as Aadhaar, PAN card, voter ID, or a valid driving license.
The cost is between ₹3,500 and ₹5,000, subject to the type and number of pages.
Certain categories still remain outside, including adopted children, change of name applicants, and Jammu & Kashmir residents.
