Renewable Power Producers Seek Extension of Transmission Charge Waiver Until 2030

Power producers in India are calling on the government to prolong the inter-state transmission charge waiver for renewable energy projects until 2030. This waiver, which is due to end on June 30, 2025, currently enables renewable energy developers to bypass substantial costs, making them more competitive compared to traditional energy sources like coal. In a recent meeting led by Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, industry representatives stressed that extending the waiver is vital for attracting investments and meeting India’s ambitious renewable energy goals. The existing waiver supports solar, wind, and hybrid projects, allowing distribution companies to reduce procurement costs. If the waiver is not extended, it could result in higher tariffs and slow down the shift to cleaner energy sources.
